The Gundestrup Cauldron (2nd c. BC). Not your average soup cauldron!

From Gundestrup, Jutland, it was found during peat cutting in 1891. Whilst the cauldron is believed to be Thracian silver workmanship, the motifs indicate contact with the Celtic people. How it came to Denmark is unknown. (speculation is offered that it may have been brought north with the Cymbri, who ravaged in West and Central Europe in the period before 100 B.C.)* Weight - 8.885kg.
